About the Area
Known as the Athens of Florida and founded in 1876, DeLand is a quaint, historic town in Central Florida located midway between Orlando and Daytona Beach. Home to Stetson University, Florida’ oldest college, you’ll love living in this architecturally remarkable town, complete with majestic red-brick buildings, Greco-Roman columns and towering oak trees draped in Spanish moss.
It’s no surprise downtown DeLand was voted America’s Best Mainstreet – the city features an array of lively outdoor cafes and restaurants, antique shops and art galleries. The renowned Athens Theatre, built in 1921, is a jewel of Italian Renaissance architecture and the perfect place to catch a show or musical. You’ll also enjoy year-round festivals, art events, farmer’s markets and museum exhibitions.
Located on the banks of the St. Johns River, living in DeLand provides plenty of opportunities to experience the great outdoors. Spend the day swimming, kayaking or scuba diving in the crystal clear springs at Blue Springs State Park. We have lived in A Better Place now for 8 years and are so happy we made the move. The location is close to the schools and all the shopping is only minutes away. The community is clean and quiet and we have the nicest neighbors. Couldn’t be happier!
