Florida is home to world-class entertainment for the entire family, many nightlife options and diverse ways to explore outdoors. Deemed the “Sunshine State,” Florida also features warm weather and beautiful beaches.

We might be biased (we choose to live here, after all!) but there really is not a “bad” time of year to move to Florida. Even so, if you’re considering becoming a Florida resident, you might be wondering when the best time to move to Florida is.

While it really depends on your situation, each season has its pros and cons. Keep reading to learn more.

Winter

If you live in the frozen North, this one might seem pretty self-explanatory. Florida offers warm weather essentially year-round. In fact, winter is a popular time for “snowbirds” to head south for the milder weather of Florida. At Garber Communities, we tend to see an uptick of interest in 55+ communities in Florida in the winter as people consider the nicer climate. We’ve even had residents move in and start enjoying resort-style amenities right away! Of course, on the negative side, if you’re coming from the colder areas, snow might be a challenge, and it might be more difficult to sell your current home during the holiday season. With tourism season in full swing, some areas in Florida might also be more in-demand or busier during winter. Even so, moving to Florida in winter can be worth it for many for the excellent change in weather compared to northern states.

Spring

Spring is an often-overlooked season for moving to Florida. Temperatures are perfect—not too hot like summer and no threat of the coldest days of winter. Humidity is also lower compared to summer. Flowers start to bloom, and all of the trees and grass become bright green. Many festivals and outdoor activities take place during these months because of the pleasant and enjoyable weather. Even so, spring is when the real estate market generally heats up across the country, so you might face issues of demand and struggle to find a great deal unless you can time your move right.

Summer

Summer is the hottest time of year in Florida, which can make moving a bit challenging. It’s also a popular time to move in general, so you might face some of the same challenges in the market and with any moving services as you would in spring—though it might be easier to sell your current residence at this time. On the plus side, however, summer offers many fun activities here, such as swimming, barbecues, water recreation and more. Moving during the summer can be beneficial for families with children to allow their transition into the new grade to be as seamless as possible, so that’s something to consider if you’re looking for an all-ages community in Florida.

Fall

At Garber Communities, we often think of fall as a hidden gem of the real estate market. Many tourists are back home and starting a new school year, and snowbirds aren’t quite enticed to head south because of falling temperatures yet. Even though it’s still plenty warm in fall in Florida, the temperatures start to drop a bit, and cooler, crisper air starts to come through. It’s a sweet spot in terms of weather, and you can be moved and settled by the holiday season. With lower demand, you can also explore more inventory and sometimes even get great deals on Florida manufactured homes.
